Porphyria Cutanea Tarda associated with HCV infection

Autor: Daniel Trabulo | Hospital da Luz Setubal, Hospital da Luz Lisboa

A 50-year-old man with elevation of transaminases was referred to the Gastroenterology appointment. On physical examination we noticed a rash on his hands and forearms, covered with oozing erosions, ulcers and patches of hyperpigmented skin.  The diagnosis of HCV infection associated with porphyriacutanea tardea (PCT) was established. In spite of the association, PCT is a rare complication of HCV infection.
